Eye Surgery in Turkey — Why Patients Choose Istanbul

Istanbul has become one of Europe's leading destinations for eye surgery, hosting clinics that perform tens of thousands of LASIK and cataract procedures annually. The combination of experienced surgeons, latest-generation Zeiss and Alcon laser platforms, and all-inclusive pricing attracts patients from Europe, the GCC and Central Asia. Unlike many countries where cataract surgery means a standard monofocal lens, Turkish clinics routinely offer premium EDOF and trifocal intraocular lenses as standard parts of their packages.

  • Zeiss VisuMax and Alcon WaveLight femtosecond laser platforms
  • Premium EDOF and trifocal IOLs for cataract surgery
  • Full pre-op corneal topography and aberrometry mapping
  • Next-day follow-up before departure confirmed

LASIK in Turkey — What to Expect

A LASIK consultation includes comprehensive corneal mapping (topography, tomography and pachymetry), pupil analysis and dry-eye assessment. The procedure itself takes approximately 15 minutes per eye. Most patients achieve 20/20 vision or better and are cleared to fly home within 48–72 hours. Patients not suitable for LASIK may be offered LASEK (PRK), SMILE or an implantable collamer lens (ICL) as alternatives.

Eye Surgery Costs in Turkey

Cataract surgery with a premium trifocal IOL in Turkey costs £1,200–£2,500 per eye, compared to £3,000–£5,000 in the UK private sector. LASIK is priced at £600–£900 per eye all-inclusive (vs £1,500–£2,500 in the UK). Retinal procedures and vitreoretinal surgery are available from £1,800 per eye.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I suitable for LASIK eye surgery in Turkey?

Suitability depends on corneal thickness, prescription strength and dry-eye status. During your free pre-assessment, our ophthalmologist reviews your corneal topography scan to confirm candidacy. Most patients with prescriptions between –1.0 and –10.0 dioptres are suitable; SMILE or ICL may be recommended for higher prescriptions.

What type of lens is used for cataract surgery?

We offer standard monofocal, premium EDOF (extended depth of focus) and trifocal IOLs. Premium lenses reduce dependence on glasses for distance, intermediate and near vision. Your surgeon will recommend the optimal lens based on your lifestyle and visual goals.

Can I fly the day after LASIK surgery?

Most LASIK patients are cleared to fly 48–72 hours after surgery. We schedule your post-op check on the morning of your planned departure day. Artificial tear eye drops and protective sunglasses are provided for the flight.

What is the difference between LASIK and SMILE eye surgery?

LASIK uses a flap created with a femtosecond laser and then excimer laser reshaping. SMILE is flapless — the laser creates a small disc (lenticule) inside the cornea that is removed through a tiny incision. SMILE has less dry-eye risk and suits active patients; LASIK offers a wider correction range.

Is retinal surgery available in Turkey?

Yes. Our partner eye centres offer vitreoretinal surgery for retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane and diabetic retinopathy. Procedures include vitrectomy, laser photocoagulation and intravitreal injections (anti-VEGF). Cases are reviewed by a retinal specialist before your arrival.
